Sermon
Your Daily Dose of Death
Speaker
Michael Dong
Sermon Outline
1. Daily Surrender: Christ calls us to die daily to pride and anger, choosing humility and love even when we feel instinctively defensive.
2. Ego Death: Like Jesus fasting in the wilderness, the Desert Fathers accepted suffering to forget their ‘false self,’ learning to love God above all else.
3. The Death of Anger and the Way of the Cross: Christians are called to endure injustice and mockery with silence and humility, leaving vengeance to God.
Questions to think about
1. Think of some times when you should have let your ego/pride die, but didn’t. What were the consequences?
2. Where, in our own lives, could we try to practise silence and self-reflection like the Desert Fathers?
3. Do you think you could (or should) become more forgiving when you feel anger or resentment toward others?
